Blog Post 2 | Tentative Sources

After days of contemplation, I have narrowed my research question to The Ethics of Advocating for Social Change in Corporations: Sealaska. I am interested in investigating how a for-profit organization can ethically advocate for the Southeast tribes of Alaska and facilitate social change while maintaining its status as a business. I wanted to look into how they are communicating with their shareholders, and how they can rally their following through newsletters and social media. I am still looking through the site and at the sources to see if that gives me a clearer line of sight for this project, as I feel like this is still a messy topic.

  1. I think questioning what advocacy looks like and what do their forms of communication look like are interesting avenues. It begs the question, are they trying to speak on behalf of the people or do they have spokespeople on their team. Does the form of advocacy support or takeaway from the cause (an X post vs. a blog post vs. a newsletter vs. a magazine article). Are there forms they should avoid entirely in order to maintain a serious tone? Does the serious tone prevent them from reaching a wider audience? I'm not sure whether I'm on the right track of what you're wanting to study haha. Just throwing stuff out there. The few articles you have regarding social media and content prompted this mind throw up from me haha.

  2. Hi Merika,

I think you have a solid goal in mind with this project. I know it’s always hard to get more narrow on your project without fully completing a literature review but I trust that you will be on track to complete that in this course very soon!

    1. Set a meeting with Bacabac to go further into my topic and what avenues I can take. Find buzz words and synonyms to expand my research. Narrowing the topic might make this easier. I feel decent about what I have, but make sure it’s TWDR centric. Do a deeper dive into the websites and news articles.
